01 — Why It Happens

Marble doesn't stain first. It etches.

Marble is calcium carbonate — it reacts to acid on contact. The dull ring under a wine glass isn't dirt or a stain you can wipe away. It's the polish itself, gone.

Marble does not wear out. It is simply neglected.

02 — Protection

What Opal Luxury actually stops.

01

Citrus & wine

Lemon, lime, wine and vinegar are the most common cause of everyday etching in a kitchen.

→
02

Coffee & tomato

Acidic foods that leave marks on unprotected marble within minutes of contact.

→
03

Cleaning products

Many everyday household cleaners are acidic enough to dull marble over time.

→
04

Daily kitchen use

Bonds to the stone itself, so protection doesn't wear off with normal use.

→
05

Time

Applied once. No annual resealing, no maintenance schedule to keep track of.

07 — FAQ

Marble protection, explained.

Does marble sealer prevent etching?

Most standard sealers only slow down staining, not etching, and fade within months. Opal Luxury is different — it bonds permanently to the stone and forms a real barrier against the acids that cause etching.

How can I protect marble countertops from lemon and vinegar?

Wiping up spills quickly helps, but it doesn't fully prevent etching from acidic foods like lemon, vinegar, wine or tomato sauce. A permanent, acid-resistant seal like Opal Luxury is the only protection that holds up to daily kitchen use.

Marble etching vs. staining — what's the difference?

Etching is a dull or discolored mark left by acid reacting with the stone's surface — it changes the finish, not just the color. Staining is a substance absorbing into the pores of the stone. Etching needs polishing to fix; staining needs poulticing. We assess before recommending protection.

Is Opal Luxury the same as a regular marble sealer?

No. Regular sealers sit on top of the stone and need reapplying every year. Opal Luxury bonds permanently to the stone itself and is applied once.
